Nice syrah. Strawberries and pepper flavors with an oaky finish. Tasted June 2009.

I think this wine got even better since I tasted it back in June. I was looking for a wine to go with pizza (if you knew me, you'd know that this is not unusual for me), and I remembered this syrah. Perfect match! The wine got a little spicer than what I remembered, which complemented the pizza beautifully. I had some friends over and the bottle was gone in minutes. Everyone agreed that the wine was great. I'm disappointed that I don't have any more. Apart from being spicy, the wine is also nicely balanced and structured - good tannins, nice finish, really coats the mouth well. Dark fruit aromas and flavors were all over this wine - black cherry mostly. I think some strawberry made it in there as well. The spicy part was the best part though. Must find more! I swirled the wine in the glass for a good two or three minutes before drinking because I find that syrahs really open up well when I do that. My little trick worked for this wine. The aroma was bursting with strawberry and earthiness (is that even a word?). It smelled like an open field of strawberries with a breeze blowing through it. Very nice! The flavor was more of the same except the strawberry faded a bit and made some room for pepper. The wine was pretty dry, and had a nice long finish that dropped in some oak flavors. Tasted June 2008.

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this wine. I think it had to do with the strawberries. Strawberries dominated both the aroma and palate. In addition, there were some earthy/minerally flavors on the palate. The wine was a little young for my taste buds, but I could see definite improvement with a year or two of bottle age. The wine had nice structure and balance. Tasted Jun'08.
